Continued growth of multi-generational holidays delivers opportunity for UK holiday park operators, says Pinelog
The trend for multiple generations of the same family holidaying together has been on the rise for the last 10 years, and the popularity of multi-generational holidays shows no sign of slowing down according to research.
A Legal & General survey of more than 2,000 UK adults showed that nearly half (46%) of respondents considered it crucial to go on multi-generational family trips, including both immediate and extended family members.
It’s just one of the reasons Pinelog Limited is seeing increasing demand from holiday parks for our large floorplan / footprint luxury timber lodges for the 2025 holiday season.
“The research aligns with what we have seen as a lodge manufacturer. There has been a year-on-year growth in demand for large and pet-friendly lodges. More and more of our holiday park customers want holiday accommodation that meets the needs of multi-generational family groups,” said Judy Barwell, Sales Account Manager at Pinelog Limited.
She added: “From the customer perspective, lodges offer a lot of things that hotels do not offer, not least a home-from-home environment with a large living area where all family members can come together, cook and enjoy each other’s company and create those all-important lasting memories.”
The desire to create lasting memories with loved ones was found to be the prime motivator for planning multi-generational holidays, with 38 per cent of respondents in the Legal & General survey citing this as the main reason.
Other reasons for a multi-generational holiday include:
- Spending quality time together as a family (51%)
- Giving grandchildren time with their grandparents (29%)
- Saving money (28%)
- Giving grandparents the chance to have a holiday (14%)
- Marking a special occasion (13%)
The news on multi-generational holidays gets better, particularly for holiday park owners. According to the UK Holiday Centres and Parks Market Report 2024, consumers say that holiday centres and parks offer ideal settings for commemorating special family milestones.
Additionally, the opportunity to stay in larger self-catering accommodation and share the cost, is something which lends itself perfectly to a lodge.
Pinelog’s Woodsman, Skyline and Glade lodges, which can be viewed by appointment at the award-winning Darwin Forest holiday park in Derbyshire’s Peak District National Park, are all available in four-bedroom configurations as well as up to three bathrooms; that’s enough space for grandparents, parents, grandchildren, and extended family.
More importantly, all of Pinelog’s lodge accommodation is on one level and can be made wheelchair accessible with the addition of ramp access, wider doors, wheelchair-friendly bedrooms and adapted shower rooms during the design stage.
