Case Study – Creating a new home on a family farm with a pre-owned lodge

With a busy working farm to run as well as an equine business, moving out of the family home wasn’t straight forward for Georgie’s 26-year-old son.
She explained: “Work on our family farm is a 24/7 job, so when my son decided to get his own place, we knew that additional travel would place even more pressure on him. My husband and I really wanted to help him find a solution that would give him the independent living he craved but also keep him close to the farm.”
The family have owned and run their busy farm in Warwickshire for 30 years. Primarily arable farming, they also have a small number of livestock and run an equine business from it.
The solution was to purchase a Pinelog pre-owned lodge and site it on the farm.
A ready-made living solution
Previously sited at the award-winning five-star Darwin Forest Holiday Park, the pre-owned lodges have fitted kitchens and bathrooms, and also come with furniture, built-in wardrobes, flooring, curtains/blinds, and most white goods in the kitchen. The pre-owned lodges offer a ready-made home once sited.
Georgie and her husband viewed the lodges in situ at Darwin Forest before placing an order for a two-bedroom Skyline lodge.
“It was very clear to us that the lodges had been very well looked after. They looked good inside and out and we are delighted with ours. The quality is excellent. The only thing you really need to do to a Pinelog pre-owned lodge is add your own touch,” said Georgie.
Site preparation
Ahead of the lodge being delivered, the family arranged for a concrete pad to be constructed at their farm as well as for utilities’ connections to be laid. Following the completion of the groundworks, the lodge was delivered in two sections before being installed.
The family’s pre-owned Pinelog lodge also included the full timber decking area in the purchase price which was assembled as part of the siting process.
Just two days later, the lodge was fully constructed at their farm and ready for occupation.
“Siting the lodge was incredibly straightforward; nothing was too much trouble for the team. They were keen to make sure we were extremely happy. Even the carpets were hoovered before they left,” added Georgie.
Adding the finishing touches
Georgie and her husband have since added a log burning stove to the lodge and there are also plans to add a large walk-in shower for their 6ft 3ins son.
The lodge has been a hit all round. “Who knows, my husband and I may move into the lodge one day and my son and his girlfriend could move into the big house. We’re just delighted with it. I can’t recommend Pinelog highly enough.”
